BRIMONDE

- Each 1 ml of BRIMONDE contains: brimonidine tartrate 2 mg

- Pharmaceutical form: Sterile eye drops

- Therapeutic category: sterile ophthalmic drops

 

 

Properties:

BRIMONDE is an alpha adrenergic receptor agonist. It has a dual mechanism of action by reducing aqueous humor production and increasing uveoscleral outflow.
Brimonidine has a rapid onset of action, the duration of effect is 12 hours or greater.
The plasma concentrations peaked within 1 to 4 hours, and the half-life is approximately 3 hours.

 

Indications:

BRIMONDE is indicated for lowering intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

 

Contraindications:

BRIMONDE is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to brimonidine tartrate or any component of this medication.
It is also contraindicated in patients receiving monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor therapy.

 

Side Effects:

Side effects of this medication are far fewer than most other glaucoma medications. Adverse events occurring in approximately 10-30% of the subjects. in descending order of incidence, included oral dryness [25.8%] ocular hyperemia [24.8%], burning and stinging [22.5%], headache [16.3%], foreign body sensation [15.5%], ocular allergic reactions [9.9%], and ocular pruritus [9.8%].

 

Precautions:

Caution should he exercised in treating patients with severe cardiovascular disease.
Caution should be used in treating patients with hepatic or renal impairment
BRIMONDE should be used with caution in patients with depression, cerebral or coronary insufficiency. orthostatic hvpotension.
Patients wearing soft contact lenses should be instructed to wait at least 15 minutes after instilling BRfNIDINE to insert soft contact lenses.
Caution is advised in patients taking tricyclic antidepressants.
Pregnancy category B: BRIMONDE should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit to the mother justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
BRIMONDE should be used cautiously in lactating mothers.
Safety and effectiveness in infants and children have not been established.

 

Dosage:

The recommended dose is one drop of BRIMONDE in the affected eye(s) three times daily.
Approximately 8 hours apart.

 

Storage:

Store at 15 - 25 ºC.
