Composition and
Presentation:
A glass bottle of 100 ml or 185 ml :Each 100 ml contains :
Sodium Alginate 5 g.
Sodium Bicarbonate 2.67 g.
Algiscon contains sodium alginate which protects the stomach.

Mechanism Action:
The alginate reacts with gastric acid to form a viscous gel (a raft) which floats
on the top of the gastric contents, then this raft acts as a mechanical barrier to
protect the stomach . It increases the pH in the cardia by two units and it does
not affect it in the other parts of the stomach. It stays in the top part of the
stomach 2 - 4 hours. |

Indications:
- Management of gastro esophageal reflux diseases .
- Vomiting after eating which is caused by gastro esophageal reflux.
- Esophagitis.
- Esophagial burn especially that caused by lying down or bending. |

Contraindications:
Childern who are under ultra low sodium diet. |

Drugs and Interaction:
Acridine compounds, phenyl mercury acetate and nitrate, calcium and heavy
metal salts, and alcohol in concentration above 5 % . |

Warnings:
- The bottle must be shacked well before taking the drug.
- Ask your doctor if your illness has not become better .
- Directly after taking algiscon, a full glass of water must be drunk .
- Pay attention to the sodium content for whom are under low sodium diet. |

Dosage:
According to your doctor`s opinion :
For adults : 1 - 2 tablespoon ( 10 ml ) 4 times daily, after food and before sleeping .
For children:1-2 ml/kg/day, divided into 4 doses after meals or breast-feeding.
In acuts reflux or esophagitis, the dose may be doubled according to your
doctor.
Remark : The drug must not be mixed with milk or may other food. |
