Presentation:
Aminophylline rectal supp, Children, 6 supp. / box or 10 supp. / Box.
Each rectal suppository contains: Aminophylline 400 mg.

Properties:
Aminophylline is a xanthene bronchodilator has diuretic properties. |

Pharmokineticks:
Aminophylline, a complex of theophylline with ethylenediamine, readily liberates theophylline in the body. Rectal absorption may be slow. Approximately 40 % is bound to plasma proteins. Theophylline is metabolized in the liver, these metabolites are excreted in the urine. In adult, about 10 % of the dose is excreted unchanged in the urine. It crosses the placenta, also enters breast milk. |

Indications:
Aminophylline is used similarly as bronchodilator in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It was formerly used in the treatment of heart failure, for its diuretic properties. |

Contraindications:
Aminophylline is contra-indicated in patients with shown hypersensitivity to any component of this product. |

Side Effects:
Aminophylline may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, cardiac arrhythmias and tachycardia. |

Drugs and Interaction:
Theophylline interacts with a wide variety of drugs: cimetidine, disulfiram, macrolide antibiotics and quinolones, phenytoin, diazepam, beta2-adrenoceptor stimulants, corticosteroids and diuretics. |

Warnings:
Aminophylline should be given with caution to:
- Patients with peptic ulceration, hyperthyroidism, cardiac or liver disease.
- Neonate, elderly, pregnant woman and nursing mothers.

Dosage:
Dosage must be determined individually and according to the physician's instructions.
Adult: 1 suppository daily at bedtime.
